Households

Leaving, removing someone, or closing a household

What ends, what you keep, and what stays with the household when people leave or a household closes.

Leaving a household ends your access to it straight away. Your own budgets and accounts stay yours, and nothing of yours is deleted.

Before you leave, Settings shows exactly what changes:

  • the shared and family budgets you will stop seeing
  • the sharing you set up that ends
  • your accounts that stop feeding a shared budget
  • your contribution terms that end, with past payments kept on record
  • the household records that stay under your name, such as expenses you published

There is a link to download your data before anything happens. Some situations have to be sorted out first, and Settings names them. A household's only admin can offer the role to another member, who has to accept it. The only manager of a family member's budget can add another manager or archive the budget. Archiving ends the contribution terms into that budget and the family member's own. The last person left can close the household instead.

An admin can remove another member. For that person it works the same way as leaving.

Closing a household ends every seat, every shared view and every invitation that hasn't been used. Each family member's budget is archived first, and archiving can't be undone. Closing deletes no records, and each person keeps their own budgets.

Deleting your Keel account takes you out of your households first. Shared records you created stay with the household under your name, without your sign-in attached. If you are the only admin, or the only manager of a family member's budget, deletion waits until that is handed over.

None of this depends on your plan. Leaving and downloading your data always work.
