Your own budget starts out private. You decide what the household sees of it in Settings, under Household, and you can change or stop that at any time.
| If you share | The household sees |
|---|---|
| Nothing | No figures from your budget. Only shared budgets and contributions appear. |
| Totals | Your spending for each complete month, added into the household's total. Categories appear only when they hold enough purchases that no single one can be picked out. Nobody can open the purchases behind a total. |
| Selected expenses | Only the expenses you pick, with their date and amount. The rest of the account stays out of view, along with your description. |
| Everything | Your budget in full, as you see it. |
Income is a separate choice. With income hidden, the household overview leaves your income out and says so, instead of showing $0. Balances can be shared only with Everything. A household total that is missing someone's income or balances is labelled as partial, with the reason.
You also choose a start date. Months before it stay out, even for someone who can see everything.
When you stop sharing, Keel stops showing your figures on the next page load, in the API and in the next data export. It can't take back what someone already saw or downloaded before then.
In your own Activity, a purchase that sits in a shared or managed budget carries a small chip, such as "In Household costs". If the budget holds only part of the purchase, the chip shows that amount. A purchase in several household budgets reads "In 2 household budgets", and opening it lists each budget with its share. Only you see the chip, and it changes nothing about what the household sees of your budget.
Budgets for family members without a sign-in are visible to the people chosen to manage them. Keeping that budget doesn't make it private from those managers.
